Bio (9/19/2019):  Macy came from Florida when she and another dog were given up when their owner had to go on a two-year job assignment.  Macy:

  • Is very loving and sweet and rides great in a car
  • Tries to please and has good manners on a leash
  • Loves leash walks
  • Is a very laid-back couch potato
  • Wants to be close to you
  • Should be an only dog as she doesn’t like to share the attention
  • Is good in the car when you go somewhere.

Macy is fine being left alone for appointments, but we’re looking for a mostly stay at home adopter because she does love her people.  As her adopter, you must be willing to walk her 4-5 times a day unless you have a fenced yard.  Macy sleeps in her kennel at night and will sometimes put herself to bed, but she would surely love the Big Bed too.

Macy knows some basic commands and is working on others.  She is very treat motivated!

Macy is more of a couch potato than playful and she gives great kisses!

Due to her allergies, Macy eats a pork-based food.  This works well for her in addition to her allergy shots she receives every 7-8 weeks.

If you are looking for a low energy girl that will keep you company and warm your bed then look no further, Macy is waiting for you to take her home!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
