BIO:  Harley was one of the rescues from a puppy mill raid in Feb 09.  Until that time he had never had human interaction.  Initially, he was extremely fearful of anything new and especially people. He was a fear biter.  Harley has come a long way.  He has definitely come out of his ‘shell’ and his personality is emerging.  He loves playing with toys.  He has become more independent although he still loves to cuddle.  His favorite spot is right on top of you or next to you.  He is living with 2 afghan hounds, 1 greyhound and another dachshund and gets along great with all of them.  Since Harley has always lived with other dogs, a home with at least 1 other dog would probably be best.  He will take some patience and lots of love  and it will be well worth the effort.  Harley is currently attending puppy classes to improve his socialization skills.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
