BIO:  Ranger came from a breeder in NC who decided to retire him and let him have the pampered life he so deserves. We are looking for specific homes for all the dogs we took from this breeder:

  • You must have a fenced yard
  • You must be home a lot to house train him if you do not have a doggie door
  • You must have patience because he doesn’t know a lot of things that a well socialized dog knows
  • You must have another dog to help him get acclimated as a pet

If you meet all these requirements then please apply to see if you can be approved to adopt him. Please remember he is not leash trained so you will either need to come and get him or send money so a crate can be purchased so we can send him in it on a volunteer transport to get him to you.

Now about Ranger... he is a handsome boy and on the shy side so you will have to work with him to help him get over his shyness. He wants to trust but he's just not sure however, after time he’ll be fine and seek out your attention. He does well with other dogs but we are not sure about cats. We could cat test if you needed us to but remember most times if the cat runs, the dog will give chase. We are saying no children but an older child may be fine. He’s more timid of men than women but will warm with all if given time. The key to this guy is patience!

Don’t apply for him because of his color, apply because you want to help a breeder dog have a wonderful life after retirement!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
