Phineas was found as a stray and was very scared at the shelter. With a structured environment, good food, long walks, and lots of toys in his foster home, Phineas has blossomed into a funny, loving little fellow. He does not like to be crated, but doesn't mind being confined by a baby gate when nobody is at home. He gets along well with other small dogs, but is afraid of some big dogs, so would do best in a home with smaller dogs only or would have to meet the bigger dog first. He would also be happy as an only dog.Phineas really wants to chase cats, so probably wouldn’t do well with them.He walks well on a leash and loves to go for walks.Phin is very affectionate and enjoys sitting on a lap and being petted. He loves to play with his ball and burrow under blankets.Phineas is very smart and will sit for his dinner and sit pretty for treats. He would do best in a quiet home that has dachshund experience. He likes older children who are calm and gentle. If you have a peaceful home and are looking for a sweet handsome little buddy to play with, Phineas is your man.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
