BIO: Gretta and her siblings came from southern AL where they were being given away for free on Craig’s List.

Gretta is a sweet little girl that loves to play with toys and her siblings and can even get into a little trouble by herself. She’s pretty social and we are helping her to be even better so she’ll be glad to meet new people.

She and the other puppies are getting better every day with using the puppy pads and she will need her adopter to be patient while she learns what outside is all about. Another younger dog in the home will be helpful and a schedule is also very important.

These are the requirements we are seeking for Gretta's home, and there are no exceptions:

  • Must have a fenced yard
  • If you have children, they must be at least 10 years old
  • Must have another young dog or cat for Gretta to play with
  • Must be home all the time to potty train her
  • Must be willing to travel to Lewisburg to pick her up on or after May 7th

If you meet these requirements and are looking to add your pack, please fill out an online adoption application.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Gretta in WV

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
