BIO: Ivy came from southern AL when the family no longer wanted her and turned her over to rescue. We can’t imagine why, other than maybe her person died and the rest of the family didn’t want her.

What we can tell you about this little girl is that she is the BEST!  Housebroken... you ask her if she has to go out and she goes right out the door when you open it.  She’ll also hold it until you let her out.  She does follow you all over the house and will stand at any closed door until you come out.  Ivy just wants to be near you, how can that be a bad thing?

No need to crate her when you leave, she waits for you to come home.  If you are retired and looking for that constant companion then look no further!  Sadly, Ivy is heartworm positive but will be heartworm free the beginning of June and can go to her forever home then.

All Ivy wants to do is be by your side, in your lap or in a doggie bed in the same room with you, it doesn’t matter.  And she’d LOVE it if you’d let her in your big bed, we believe she was allowed in her former life.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
