BIO UPDATE (7/20/19):  Eddie is an AWESOME pup who would love to be your best buddy!  We cannot understand why he can’t seem to catch a break in finding his forever home.  Eddie:

  • Is a sweet 10-year-old easy-going boy
  • Loves to go on leash walks
  • Loves being outside
  • Loves tummy rubs
  • Wants to sleep in the big bed with you, but will sleep in his dog bed if he must
  • Gets along great with his male and female foster siblings
  • Is extremely well-behaved, especially when strangers come to the house
  • Does not bark a lot
  • Is a perfect lean weight for a Standard Dachshund
  • Does not mind getting his teeth brushed
  • Is potty trained
  • Has a beautiful shiny black coat
  • Needs eye drops twice a day for the rest of his life for dry eyes (eyes otherwise perfect)
  • Takes Apoquel Tab once a day to keep him from itching
  • Is not demanding - a very easy dog to take care of

BIO UPDATE (6/3/2019):  Eddie is a very kind and gentle dog and he’s just great with anybody he meets! He doesn’t bark and is not the least bit aggressive toward new people. He’s so sweet and lets you do anything you need to do for him with absolutely no fuss at all, whether it be giving him his eye drops or a bath, brushing his teeth, or putting his harness and leash on for a walk. He’s a very easy dog to care for and seems to really appreciate everything you do for him.

It has gotten very hot in Georgia where Eddie is being fostered so we aren’t walking as much or as far as we used to just because of the heat. Once it cools back down Eddie would love to get back to his 1 1/2 to 2-mile walks. He loves to sit at the base of a tree and watch the squirrels in my back yard. He would give anything to be able to climb the tree to chase them. On his walks if Eddie sees a squirrel you better hold on tight because he wants to catch them, and he can run pretty fast if there is a squirrel to chase!!

When Eddie goes missing in the house, you can always find him on the sofa under a blanket or nudged between the sofa pillows. He loves to relax on the sofa and just chill, especially after a walk. Unless he is napping his tail is almost always wagging. He’s just a sweet, happy dog!

If you have any questions about Eddie, please email me. He’s 10 years young and deserves a great home for the rest of his life. He has a whole lot of energy for a dog his age and has come such a long way with his weight loss. He looks perfect now and his coat is soft, full, and beautiful. His adopter has to promise to never let Eddie get overweight again. I cannot stress enough the difference in Eddie since he lost 12 pounds. He’s active and happy; a lean, mean, squirrel-hunting machine. He plays with my other dogs a lot since he’s gotten the weight off. And one added bonus, he’s NEVER peed or pooped in my house… not one time!

Just FYI, I’ve kept one picture of Eddie (the last one) on the website before he lost all the weight just so you can see the difference.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
