BIO UPDATE:  I came in at 28 pounds and now I'm down to 20 pounds! Foster mom thinks another maybe 2 pounds and I'll be at my ideal weight. I am very laid back, like to go for walks and get along with male and female dogs. And, I'm fine when you are gone, what more can you ask for? Adopt me, please... l'd like to enjoy the warm summer nights at your home!

BIO:  Hi there, I'm Hoagie! They told me that I should tell you a little about myself first. Well, I came from Southern AL and I was taken from a hoarding situation. There were lots of us wiener dogs, some of us standards but most of us overweight. They told me first thing when I came up here that I have to lose 3-4 pounds so here I am on a diet, doesn’t sound like much but we’ll see.

I had a bad eye so the vet and rescue thought it was best to remove it to not cause me any more discomfort. And now that I’m feeling better, they were right! I feel so much better and I’m really happy to have it gone. I don’t miss it at all.

I am doing well on the doggie door but you’ll have to keep me on a schedule until I figure out your schedule and then I’ll be fine. I am crate trained so if you have to go away or work I’m fine chillin in a crate until you get home. I am pretty laid back if I do say so myself and I like all people, just takes me a minute to warm up. I’m fine with other dogs male and female but don’t know about cats.

Could you please give me a lasting forever home? I just want a home to call my own, I will be forever grateful!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
