BIO:  Meet Cowboy! He was turned into a shelter in Alabama and we were contacted to take him. The owners said he needed to be an only dog or with a female dog. They had to take in their mom’s dog when she passed away. So poor Cowboy is looking to you for his forever home.

He is great with people, just not other dogs or cats. He loves toys and will play with them or with you with them. He loves to go for walks and just loves to be your lap-baby and, if you approve, in the Big Bed with you.

Cowboy is fun-loving, friendly, happy, and just a beautiful dog! We are working to get him down to his ideal weight and he will soon be there, we think we too many treats got him a little overweight.

If you are looking to have just one dog, then Cowboy is the dog for you. Please consider giving him his last forever home so he won’t be homeless again.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
