BIO (3/6/2019): Whoever gets to adopt Leo will have hit the jackpot! He has fast become one of his foster dad’s favorite dogs.

Leo came from Alabama where, after his “parents” split, he was kept in a trailer with another dog. Every two or three days someone would come by to feed them, but other than that the dogs had the run of the trailer.

At first Leo might seem to be hard to get along with. He has to have time to warm up to a person, which takes about 10-15 minutes. At first he will bark at you and then before you know it, he is wagging his tail and trying to get onto your lap. Despite his background, he has had few accidents in the house. While he doesn’t like his crate, he has never had an accident in it. He gets along with both female and other male dogs and he is full of kisses for his people. He loves to be in your lap. He loves to be picked up and loved. He has one of the best temperaments of any foster that has come through this house. He loves to play with other dogs, so the ideal house would be one with a younger dog that also likes to play.

His foster dad can’t think of enough great words to describe Leo. He is simply a great dog! Will you be the lucky person to adopt King Leo?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
