BIO (2/1/2019): This is Tammy. No, she is not a dachshund, but we couldn’t turn her away! She is a beautiful Maltipoo! Tammy was surrendered to the rescue by her previous owner. She lived with multiple cats, so she is used to them. She does not seem to be potty trained, but as it is below 0 here in Wisconsin, it is hard to get her to go outside. She is using puppy pads right now and we will work on getting her outside once it warms up. Tammy is a wonderful little snuggler. She prefers my husband and will follow him everywhere. She does not seem to want to play with our dogs yet, but we will give her some time to adjust. She is happy to just be held. She is perfectly content just being on the couch with you, so she must go to a home where she will be allowed on furniture.
I will update as she spends more time here.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Affectionate
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
