BIO: Freddie came from owners in West TN who couldn’t or wouldn’t care for him any longer.

He has lost some of his hearing due to an ear infection that was left untreated. We have cleared that up but the hearing loss is permanent. If you speak loudly or use hand signals, he understands you.

He also came to us with almost no fur! We have now put him on a good quality food and Thyroid pills, and as you can see, his hair has come back beautifully.

With all this being said, five year old Freddie is the sweetest Dachshund! He just wants to be loved and because he does not hear well, he doesn’t bark like the other fosters do. This would make him a great apartment dog BUT he would have to be kept on a strict schedule if you don’t have a fenced yard to let him in and out. He doesn’t know how to tell you he has to go.

Freddie doesn’t seem to understand why he keeps getting overlooked when he’d make someone a great dog. He loves to follow his foster mom from room to room or when she goes outside. He’d love to sleep in the big bed with you but doesn’t with his foster mom and is happy sleeping in a doggie bed.

Someone who is home a lot or most of the time would have the perfect home for Freddie. We think he’d be fine with or without a fur sibling.

Please give him his LAST forever home!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Freddie in PA

Good with Some Dogs (No large dogs), Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Needs special care

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
