BIO: Lenny just can’t catch a break! He was dumped in the Memphis Animal Shelter by his owner with a bad eye AND when tested was heartworm positive. We took him to the vets and yes, the eye had to come out. That’s why you see him with a donut around his neck. He has to wear that for two weeks then the staples will come out. Two weeks after that he can have his heartworm treatment and the middle of January he should be able to go to his new home.

You will want this boy... he is the sweetest, calmest boy for only 4 years old! He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and does not pose a threat to any male or female dog, or cat. He just wants to love and be loved.

He loves to be in the same room with you but is also okay in another room with other fosters. We think he’d be fine being an only dog if you had to work but if that is the case, we want him to at least have a fenced yard so he can enjoy the outside when you’re home.

Get your application in NOW because Standard Dachshunds don’t last long because anyone that’s had one knows they are not like your typical Dachshund, they are more like the hound group, just laid back and friendly. So act quickly!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Lenny in TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
