BIO: Baxter was surrendered by a breeder in Alabama that has decided to retire from breeding so she surrendered her last three dogs to AADR, and Baxter was one of them. Baxter will need extensive dental work done so he will not be available until the end of January or the beginning of February so you have plenty of time to think about taking this sweet boy. He’s only 10 pounds but he is not shy and loves people and other dogs, but not cats!

He loves to be out in the fenced yard and will sleep the night away in a doggie bed in the living room or in your room if you let him.

He is still trying to catch on to potty training but we know he’ll get there. Right now he has a doggie door and is doing well except when it’s raining, then all bets are off. Anyone that’s had a Dachshund knows that this is just how they are.

He would do best with a well socialized dog as a companion so he can follow their lead and a set pottying schedule.

Wouldn’t you please consider giving this sweet boy his last forever home with you?

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Baxter in TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
