BIO (10/22/2018):  Alvin came to us from Eastern Tennessee via a Good Samaritan that was able to recover him from a pretty rough situation. Alvin’s daddy passed away and the lady that he was with didn’t want him anymore. He was found in a backyard with grass so high you couldn’t see him. He was also covered in fleas and his toenails were curled around and growing into the pads of his feet.

Now...don’t let all that worry you, Alvin remained a happy pup and now that he’s all cleaned up, he is a joy to have around.  Tail wagging, giving kisses, and loving to snuggle. Pretty amazing that he was able to keep such a good nature after being treated so poorly.

Alvin will be good in a home with or without other dogs. He does seem to like to play, but I think he’ll be just as happy to just snuggle with his owner(s) and be a happy only dog too. We would like to see a fenced yard so that he is able to run around free and happy for some extra exercise. He seems to walk like a champ while on a leash.

Please consider Alvin to be an addition to your home...he will not disappoint!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
