BIO (9/16/2016):  Rocky is a happy-to-know-you little guy who gets along with other dogs very well and is content to play, sit in a lap, or just hang out on the couch.  While he doesn’t enjoy being alone in a crate, he does enjoy the company of a pack, and he bonds quickly with them, and with humans.  He is a very social guy, loving new visitors who come to the house.  While we don’t let him sleep in the bed, he would just love snuggling up in bed with his human, and sitting in their laps.  He never wanders far, and has a wonderful bark that he rarely uses.  But rest assured, he is always alert, aware, and watching out for your well-being.

Rocky comes from Tennessee, and he was neglected by his owner.  When food is available, he is always quite interested, and he loves chewing toys and bones!  He is a survivor, but one with wisdom and grace.  He’d be very happy with a forever home in which he can be predictably fed, get many snuggles, and have a pack of doggie friends.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
