BIO:  My name is Dexter, and boy, am I a lucky guy!  My former people couldn’t keep me, so they dropped me off at a vet clinic.  That’s where the lucky part comes in, because those nice vet people knew about AADR.  The next thing I knew, I was rescued and on my way to a foster home!

My foster mom thinks I am the perfect little gentleman.  I get along well with my 4 foster sisters, even the bossy ones, because I’m on the submissive, timid side.  I am very friendly with everyone I meet as soon as I’m sure that they want to be my friend.  I love snuggling, giving kisses, and burrowing in fluffy blankets.  My foster mom thinks that I would love to sleep in the big bed at night, since I’m such a snuggle bug, and really don’t care for sleeping in my crate.  That’s something we are working on, and lullaby music is helping.

My foster mom thinks that someone will snatch me right up, and she doesn’t think she will have me for very long.  And even though I really love her, I hope she’s right.  I really can’t wait for a family of my own!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
