BIO (5/28/2018):  Hello, my name is Schnapps and I'm 11 years old but I have a birthday coming soon (on November 24th).  I don't feel like I'll be 12 this year because I love to run the yard and smell all that there is to smell and check out!  The other Dachshunds and I like to explore the yard to see what we can find.  I'm in what they call a foster home with other Dachshunds and even a few cats.  I do get along with them all; as a matter of fact, humans say I'm gentle.
I'm even learning what a doggie door is so I can go outside in the yard anytime I want to!

I like to go for car rides, long walks, and will sleep in my crate at night if I have to.  I think I might like the big bed much better though!  I'm a standard Dachshund so I'm longer and a little bigger than most of the Dachshunds you see, and I really need to keep my weight down so I can get around better.  My foster mom says I'm a good eater and I don't bother the others while they eat.

I had my dental last week and didn't lose any teeth!  Yippee for me!  But I did have a lipoma removed from my side but it's ok and my hair will grow back soon.

If you’re looking for a new addition to your home please look at me!  I would love to have my very own Furever Home!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
