BIO (5/8/2018):  Skeeter is one of the most adorable and sweetest dogs you will ever run across!  This is all the more remarkable because he came from a difficult situation at best.  You see, Skeeter came out of a hoarding situation.  Authorities went to investigate a child truancy case and, in the process, came across a home that had 30, yes 30, dogs in it.  Skeeter was one of those souls and he is having to work his way through some issues as a result.  Don’t you fret though... he is sweet and loving and is looking for that special home where he can be free and happy.

Because of the hoarding situation, Skeeter is having to learn his potty training.  His past was such that he does not necessarily associate going outside with going to potty.  He is learning though and with time and patience, he will be fine.  He has not had an accident in his crate, even though he is not overly fond of it.  If he knows you are nearby he will cry and cry till you let him out.  Same for going outside.  He WANTS to be near his people.  When his foster dad picked him up to foster, he practically rode the entire trip with his face buried in his foster dad’s arm.  He craves people and wants to love on them and they love on him!!

Skeeter gets along with both males and females and has settled into his foster home with no social problems at all.  In fact, he has really started to play a lot with Lucy, a very precocious Chiweenie that lives in the house.  Skeeter loves to sleep in the big bed and sleeps through the night with no issues whatsoever.

If you are looking for a sweetheart of a dog, look no further!  Skeeter will take all the loving you can give him and return it threefold!!  Will you be that special forever home?

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
