BIO (4/20/2018):  Arizona came to rescue when her owners could no longer care for her.  AADR took her to the vet where she was spayed, updated on vaccines, and received a dental cleaning.  She lost a couple teeth, but that hasn't slowed her down a bit.

Ari is housebroken but needs to go out every few hours.  For longer periods, she stays in a pet friendly area with pee pads.  She needs a fenced yard so she can explore and take care of business.  At night she sleeps quietly in her crate.

Arizona is a real sweetheart who loves to be with people!  She is happy to be sitting in a lap or just hanging out near you.  Ari is a playful girl and likes to chase a toy or other dogs if they want to play.  Arizona walks well on a leash and enjoys walks around the neighborhood.  She sometimes barks at new people and dogs, but once she meets them she is very friendly.  She would do fine with older children who understand that they must be gentle with her.  She gets along well with other small dogs and is not sure about big dogs.  If they were friendly, she would warm up to them.  She barks at cats outside, but inside she sniffs at them and then ignores them.  Most cats are bigger than her.

Arizona would be a great companion for somebody who is home a lot and would enjoy a sweet little buddy!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
