BIO  (4/17/2018):  Hi, I'm Arrow!  I'm a 7-year-old male dachshund.  I was a stray found in Kentucky and taken to the shelter and then sent to AADR.  I had a few issues but I'm better now.  I had to have several teeth pulled and my belly was hurting, but I took all my medicine and now I'm better.  Now I'm with my foster family.  My foster mom says she doesn't understand why no one looked for me...but they didn't.  So here I am staying in Virginia until I find my forever family!

So, my foster mom says I'm VERY laid back.  I'd be happiest with a family where I am not home alone a lot because how will you rub my belly if you're not home with me?... lol!  When you leave I will give you sad doggy eyes and do some whining but after a little while I calm myself.  I would also love a furbaby sister (not sure about a brother) if they are about the same size and age as me.  I have a foster furbaby sister and we have become bff's but bigger furbabies make me somewhat nervous.

My favorite thing to do is lay next to my family on the couch and get belly rubs!  Its makes me soooo happy.  I also love going for walks, riding in the car, and going shopping but I am not high energy.  I prefer to take my time and stroll along.  I have no way of telling my foster mom why but if there are sudden movements towards me, I cower like I think someone is going to hurt me.  So, I get a little scared but I think after a while and when I know I can trust you, I'll get over it.  I'm not aggressive at all and I warm up very quickly.  Check out my videos!

Do you think I'd be a good fit for your family?

Love, Arrow

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
