BIO (4/15/2018):

Akasha was left at the animal shelter by her owner who was moving and could not take her.  What a terrible thing to have happen after devoting your life to your human.  But it has not affected her sweet disposition.  Akasha is an affectionate girl that loves to cuddle!  She follows me around the house and jumps up next to me when I sit.  She loves to be in my lap!  Akasha was defensive when she first met Margo, my Lab, but now they walk and sleep together with no problem.

She loves to go for walks.  Akasha walks well on the leash but knows how to slip out of her collar.  A harness is the best bet to keep her safe. This little one may be a senior but be ready for energetic walks!

Akasha enjoys traveling and enjoys meeting new people.  She has been to my shop with me and is very friendly to all customers.

This beautiful little senior would do best when kept on a familiar routine and schedule so someone who is home most of the time would be a wonderful parent for Akasha.  She is looking for a home where she can relax and enjoy her senior years being your best friend forever... is it your home?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
