BIO: Jasper is a handsome and strong-willed lad of 2 years of age. He has acclimated to his foster home quite well, though he will need a dachshund savvy pack-leader in his new home. He is obsessed with toys and does not like it when you take away a toy. He has growled and snarled on occasion but sulks when scolded. He tries to make up for it by snuggling with you and laying his head on your chest and looking up at you. If you give him time and space, he is a real sweetheart deep down.
We don’t know that much about Jasper’s past except that he was dumped at a shelter. The shelter was told that Jasper’s owner was in the hospital and that the “family” would come back for him soon. When that didn’t happen, the shelter called the hospital and there was no patient there by the name that they had been given.
Please give Jasper a chance. He is a sweet soul who only wants love and attention. If you give him that, he will return it threefold!!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
