BIO:  Misty came from a home that she shared with an elderly woman who became too ill to care for her.  She and her owner spent the entire day with each other and Misty was very well cared for and got pretty much her own way.  She loves to sleep with her person in the big bed.  She does not like to be crated  (will cry) and seldom is - most of the time, if I have to go out she has the run of the house along with my other dachshund.  Loves treats and has a good appetite.  She loves to spend her time on my lap, when it's available.  She follows me around and keeps track of all the events taking place in and out of the house.  She is very protective of her house.  She is an Alpha female and soon after arriving took charge of Fritz, my male dachshund.

She loves to be petted and rubbed and will nose your hand until you get the hint!  She needs to be picked up the way you would pick any doxie up - under the belly and under the butt - NEVER UNDER THE FRONT LEGS.  She did nip the vet so she will probably need to be muzzled when taken to the vet.  She is very leary of strangers - mostly fearful.  She loves to go for car rides and walks great on her leash.  She has lots of energy, so a daily walk is greatly appreciated.   She must be watched closely at the door - three time she got out and eventually came when called.  The other one she just ran off and I had to go in my car to catch up with her - so beware!

out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
