BIO:  WHY IS EVERYONE OVERLOOKING THIS GREAT DOG?

Scooter came to us in a roundabout way.  He was living in Middle Tennessee when his owner died.  A nurse took him but then gave him away.  That lady was concerned with his teeth and because they were so bad, she turned him over to rescue.  We have given Scooter dental care and he now has a sparkling smile!

Scooter would be a great dog by himself or with a cat.  Other dogs, especially males, can be a challenge for him.  He is used to being with his people so he would not be a good candidate for apartment living because he could bark when his owner leaves him alone.  For this reason, we are asking that only people with a single family house and a fenced yard apply to adopt Scooter.

Sadly, Scooter was never on prevention for heartworms.  He was heartworm positive when he came to rescue and had to be treated.  Scooter is now heartworm FREE and is ready for his forever home. Please don't over look Scooter, he needs and wants a forever home badly. He's a great dog and would do great with a friend when you have to go away for the day.

If you are looking for a sidekick that you can take everywhere with you, then Scooter just might be the dog for you!  Email his foster mom and talk with her about him and the possibility of being his next and last forever family.

Good with Some Dogs (No male dogs), Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
