UPDATE: 3/23/09 Georgia is coming along nicely. She has become very comfortable with my husband and much better when people come over, even man. She may bark a little but she is learning to hush when told. We found at bed time she really is not fond of the cage and would do better in a home where she could share the big bed with her people. She does good in the cage when you leave to go out... it's just at night when she knows your going to bed without her she has an attitude. She is doing wonderful with house training and is having no accidents in the house at all. We do keep her on a good schedule and someone is home with her most of the time. She is getting more hair and starting to put on weight but could still use more of both. If she is still here by next update I'm sure she will be filled out and have all her hair back. We are working on her manners she is learning not to jump up on everyone as well as basic obedience.... she is a normal Dachshund when it comes to training ....she can do really well one time and then totally ignore you another time if she has something better to do...so we are still working on that. She is really smart though and very trainable. If you are interestened in Georgia "AKA Gigi Brown" please contact us we would love to hear from you and fill you in more on this sweet little girl.
BIO: Sweet Georgia Brown was rescued after being removed from a hording situation. She's a sensitive & insecure little girl but sooooo sweet. She has a big issue with men and does have fear biting issues with them, her foster Daddy is working hard with her on that and to win her heart. She must always be spoken to in a calm happy tone of voice and never treated impatiently, but still needs structure and boundries to help her become secure. She will need an adopter who can spend a lot of time with her. She can tend to have separation anxiety and submission pee issues, also potty training needed to be started from scratch as she was not trained at all, she is doing well but needs to be on a good schedule to help her be successful in this area...again all things we are working on. She just wants to be loved but she just needs to be shown how. She does very well with other dogs and cats. She is good around children but because of fear biting issues she would probably do better in a home without them or older children only. When she came to AADR she did have mange and is being treated for that. She still has hair loss from this so I will be updating pictures as her hair grows in. Sweet Georgia Brown may give an adopter a run for their money in the transition period but will be worth every dime! There is a wonderful dog under all her issues and the right home will bring it out in her. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
More about GEORGIA
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
