BIO:  What a snuggle bug!  If you’re looking for a couch cuddler, Patton is your guy.  He’ll laze with you most of the day until he needs to go potty and he lets you know every time.  And smart - let me tell you he is the smartest and fastest learner I’ve ever fostered!  Patton mastered the rules of the house in a day.  My dogs must sit when coming inside.  He does it without even being told. They also must sit before going outside to get their collars on.  I take them off when they are inside to prevent matting behind the ears.

I feed my fosters in a crate to avoid issues with my own pets.  On the second day when I said “Patton, crate up” he ran in and waited quietly while I fed the others.  Now I don’t even need to tell him.  He also sleeps in his crate without much grumbling, although he’d rather not.

Patton loves to be outdoors in the backyard.  He runs and rolls and plays and would stay out all day if I wanted to be out there with him that long.  It’s too cold for that right now though.

He enjoys playing with toys too, and will carry them around the house at times.  He has even gotten my dog to play and that’s saying something.  My boy is 14 years old and hasn’t played in a long, long time.  But he likes Patton!

Patton will do great in a quiet home with another adult dog.

A fenced yard is best because he does like to get out and explore on his own.  Patton loves lap time and just chillin’ while you work away in your home.  He does love to go on walks so, if you are a walker, he’ll be a willing partner.

Patton has a beautiful coat that we did have to trim down so when it finally grows out, you’ll see how truly beautiful he is inside and out.

This boy will get lots of attention due to his calm nature so don’t hesitate too long.  Oh, and no kids under 10 years.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
