BIO:

Danny was surrendered to a small rural animal shelter because he became lonesome when the neighbors moved and took their dogs with them.  He was barking and running in the road looking for his friends, so his owners decided he had to go.

When Danny went for his dental cleaning, he lost several teeth, but has no problem eating dry dog food that has been moistened with water.  When he has healed in a few weeks he will be able to eat dry dog food.

Danny is a sweet little guy who enjoys walks and snoozing in his dog bed.  He is crate trained, but does not like it.  He is well behaved, so he stays out in the house during the day.  He does howl a little when he is first left, so he would not do well in an apartment.  At night he has been sleeping in a dog bed, but would be happy to sleep with his people too.  Danny goes to the door when he needs to go out.  He has had a few accidents in the house, but has learned to use a pee pad when nobody is home to take him outside.

Danny is friendly with new people.  He has not been around young children.  Because of his small size he would do best with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with him.  He gets along well with the other dogs in the family.  He plays a little, but is not a high energy dog.  He has not been around cats, but has a gentle nature and would probably be fine with them.

If you are looking for a handsome and friendly addition to your family, Danny is your guy!

More about Danny in TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
