BIO:

CHESTERChester came from a shelter in southeastern Tennessee.  His owner had taken him to the shelter because she said he peed all over the house and the husband said he had to go.  We have had no problem with him.  In fact, he even lets us know when he needs to go outside!  However, we suggest a strict schedule until he gets accustomed to your home.  Also, if it’s raining or really cold, dachshunds may not go out to potty but you have to expect that if you want to own a dachshund.

Chester was a little depressed when we first brought him into rescue, but then we bought in another dog, Furby.  They became best friends!  These two sleep together, go out together, and cuddle together.  For that reason, we will only adopt Chester with his BFF, Furby.  Chester loves lap time but also LOVES to cuddle with Furby.  Their new home must have a fenced yard.  Please don’t ask that these requirements be reconsidered because this is what is best for Chester and Furby.  Thank you for understanding.

Since connecting with Furby and getting more comfortable in his foster home, Chester acts like the dachshund puppy that he is!  He loves everyone, people and dogs, but he needs a home that can give him plenty of exercise.  Chester is always on the go, and would love to play fetch all day long!  If he’s not playing fetch or chewing on all his toys, he’s exploring anywhere and everywhere.  He never sits still for long--he’s the happiest little boy and boy he gives great kisses!

FURBY:  What a SWEET boy!  We can’t imagine why the owner turned Furby into the shelter in northern Alabama.  However, we do think he was mistreated.  He also came to us with a broken tail.  He very thin and needs some weight on his bones but only about another pound or two.  Until he puts some weight on, he will need to be covered up when it’s cold out because he shivers.

He is housebroken, and generally gets along with other dogs, both male and female.  He is shy and slow to warm up, but once he does he is very friendly and loves to be in your lap.  He does get a little possessive of his favorite people and gives his brothers a growl every now and then.

If you are interested in adopting these sweet boys, please submit your application.  Don’t hesitate, these handsome little men won’t be with us long!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
