BIO:  Nana came from a shelter in East Tennessee where she was picked up as a stray.  We are sure she was someone’s dog at one time but most likely was not wanted by the family when the elderly parent either passed away or went into a nursing home.  We believe that at one time Nana was well cared for.  Her teeth (for her age) are in great shape and she is spayed.

We know Nana was very depressed when she came to us and very thin like she’d been on her own for a while.  She was also heartworm positive.  She has now been completely vetted and we are treating her for heartworms.

Nana is the SWEETEST little girl and happy to have you pay attention to her!  She loves sweaters and coats and loves to nap her days away in a doggie bed or better yet, your lap.

If you are looking to add to your family and don’t care that Nana doesn’t see the best with her eyes but has 20/20 vision when it comes to seeing with her heart, then this little girl is the one you are looking for!

Sweet, happy, gets along with other dogs, and low energy…what more can you ask for?  If you take her out, she is completely house broken and she will then find her way back to the door or in through the doggie door.

Nana will be ready for her new home the end of January when she finishes her heartworm treatments.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
