BIO UPDATE (3/5/2018):  Although they did not come into rescue together, Liberty and Dyson have spent nearly 4 months together in foster homes.  By definition, we do not consider them a "bonded pair" but they sure do get along well together.  Liberty has an alpha personality which has really seemed to help Dyson come out of his shell.  They will play together for hours as well as snuggle with you on the couch.  When they get rough housing, they do sound like quite a dog fight is going to break out, but that is just their way of playing together.  If your house is ready for two playful young dogs, look no further because you've found the perfect two right here!  By adopting both Liberty & Dyson, the adoption fee will be $300 for both and we will waive the chip registration fee as well.  Information about Dyson can be found on his webpage:   http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=12356309

BIO:   Liberty was picked up in rural Manchester, Tennessee along with her newborn babies, all of which died because she had no milk for them.  The Good Samaritan’s friend then reached out to us to see if we would take her.  Of course we said we would!  We are sorry she was not cared for enough by her previous owner to help her babies survive, but she’s in good hands now and we’ll find her a great home.

Liberty has been in her foster home in Vermont for about a week.  She is so very smart and truly wants to make her humans happy.  She can be very independent or have fun and play like a puppy.  She is amazingly fast!  Those long legs carry her over the ground with lightning speed.  For this reason, she must have a fenced yard so she can run like the wind.  She does love going on leashed walks too, but they just aren't fast enough for her to expend her energy.  Liberty is housebroken to a doggie door and would probably just need a refresher on going to the door to be let out, or kept on a schedule if one is not available in her furever home.

We cannot allow her to go to a home that has children under the age of ten or children that do not respect a dog's space.  We really would like to see her in a home with a small young male dog that she can play with too.  She has developed a slight alpha female personality and can be bossy, so therefore a home with another female will not be a good fit for her.

If you would like more information about this sweet little girl, please contact her foster family.  They look forward to telling you all about her!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
