BIO: Tilly came from rural Mississippi where she was dumped out in the country probably to either be killed by wild animals or hit by a passing car. Luckily for her she was saved by a Good Samaritan who turned her into the shelter. But Tilly’s luck before this was not good. We know she was a puppy mill dog because she is afraid of many things. She doesn’t care for men or children. She’s fine with other dogs, and probably cats.
We believe Tilly was kept in a small crate when she was a puppy and growing because her legs are deformed and she walks on her hocks. We don’t believe she’s in pain but she cannot walk on her feet. She can get around very well - don’t kid yourself. In addition to this, poor Tilly was heartworm positive and has low thyroid. She has completed her treatment for heartworms and is on thyroid medications. With the treatment for her thyroid condition, she’s regrown the hair that she was missing and it is beautiful.
Anyone that adopts Tilly will have to understand she’ll never be completely social. She was a puppy mill dog for too long. She will potty outside if you carry her out and offer her treats for going potty but you have to be patient and gentle, and then patient some more. Tilly will probably come around but it’s going to take a long time…but if you want to make a difference in a puppy mill dog and you have the patience, then Tilly will thank you and be so grateful for making her a part of your family!
Please consider Tilly but do so only if you are up to the challenge and have the time and patience she deserves.
