BIO: Carmie came from a lady that had cancer for the second time and she was going to have to have surgery and chemo and she just couldn’t care for Carmie any longer. So with a broken heart, she handed her over to rescue with tears streaming down her face and Carmie licking them away as if to say she understood what her owner had to do. Ours hearts broke for both of them.

First thing we did was put Carmie on a diet to help her lose the weigh she had put on. She’ll need to lose about 6 pounds to get down to the weight that will be healthy for her. She is trying to like the Metabolic but it’s still a work in progress. She does excellent with the doggie door and at night sleeps the night away in a doggie bed in her foster mom’s bedroom. She’s not a big barker and is pretty laid back, and she follows foster mom all over the house and outside.

The family that gets Carmie is getting a jewel because other than snoring when sleeping, she doesn’t have any bad habits!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI, NH or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our  home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Carmello aka Carmie aka coco FL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
