BIO:   Hi, Shorty here!  If you’ll notice in some of my pictures, I have an ear that sticks out kinda funny, that’s what makes me “special”.  You’ll love that about me!  Now words from my foster mom….

Shorty came from GA where she was found by a Good Samaritan who took her in and took her to the vet to get her heartworm test and shots updated.  However, this lady just knew she couldn’t keep Shorty because she already had a dog so, she started looking for a rescue to take her.

Shorty was very confused when she came to us and I’m sure she was wondering why was she abandoned again, but she bounced back and is doing just fine in my home.  She loves her doggie beds or my lap, whichever is the easiest to get to.  Shorty also loves to be in the fenced-in yard.  She’d prefer that you be with her but will go out on her own through the doggie door if that’s available.

She gets along with other dogs, but I don’t know about cats.  Our perfect home for Shorty would have a fenced-in yard and another older dog.  A home with a retired person that would take her along on car trips once in a while would also be fantastic.  Shorty was a couple pounds overweight when she arrived but we’ve been watching what she eats and she now needs to lose only a couple more pounds and she’ll have a great figure.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
