BIO UPDATE 9/13/17:  Bella has been with her foster family for about a month now and except for the fact there hasn’t been any inquiries on her, she is doing fantastic!  The only accidents occur when it’s raining and that doesn’t happen if she’s encouraged to go out. She’s losing weight but still needs to lose about 3 pounds.  She still snores but it’s not nearly as loud!  She has become more trusting and looks up at us with those big brown eyes and gives the sweetest, most gentle kisses.  There’s one thing that hasn’t changed though and that’s her sweet disposition.  She’s really just perfect!! Won’t you consider making Bella a part of your family?  I promise you won’t regret it!!!

BIO: Sweet, sweet, sweet! That’s the only word that comes to mind when I try to describe Bella. There just isn’t another word! Not a better one, anyway.

Bella was surrendered by family after her human passed away. Can you imagine how confused she must be? They brought her to the right place though. She’s been fully vetted and had her dental, where she lost a few teeth. She is overweight and on a strict diet and needs to lose about 4 or 5 more pounds. She gets along great with her foster brother and sister and everyone she meets. Because of her age, we don’t recommend small children. We’ve had her going on 2 weeks now and have heard her bark once. She snores like a freight train but when in her crate for the night, you can’t hear her that much. She looks up at you with those big brown eyes but won’t lick you. She just loves being cuddled and loved on. She enjoys lounging around and we try to get her out as often as possible, and she would really benefit from someone that can take her for walks so she can get more fit. Bella uses the doggy door very well, and has had only a couple of accidents. I consider her to be house-trained though. She just needs more time to adapt. She does not like the rain and I have a feeling she wouldn’t like snow. Because of that, we would like to see her spend the rest of her senior years in the South where it’s warm.

So if you’re looking for the sweetest, non-licking, non-barking, freight train snoring girl that will warm your heart and bring a smile to your face every time you see her, look no further!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
