BIO Update 9/15/17:  Just a little update as we learn more about this little guy:

Bear Boy would do best in a home with another canine companion.  A fenced in yard would be preferable for him. He knows how to slip a collar (but not his harness), and he will try to sneak out of the door if the opportunity presents itself.  BB won't have an accident in his crate, but he does better if you accompany him on potty trips to make sure all business is done, especially if it is cold or wet out.  He knows the command "go potty".

BIO: ***Bear Boy needs a FENCED yard and either another dog or someone home most of the time***

My name is Bear Boy and I’m a pretty happy little guy!  My owner passed away and unfortunately, I was surrendered to shelter with my brother.  I love to follow you everywhere.  I am a real lover.  Although I love sitting next to you and just hanging out, I really enjoy going for walks.  I’m a little on the heavy side, so I’m on a special diet until I lose some weight.

Blankets are the best since burrowing is so fun.  I sleep very well in my little bed next to the big bed.  In fact, I sleep all through the night like a good boy!  I don’t get into things I’m not supposed to.  Squeaky toys are fun and I will play fetch.  I like to ride in the car with you and go to fun places.

I do have a few minor things I’m working on.  I love to carry on when you come home and I’m in my kennel until you let me out... I’m just very excited.  I’m not terribly fond of my kennel, but I will go in there without much of a fuss.  I like people and other dogs though I’m a little unsure of my foster sister, the big boisterous boxer, but she’s growing on me.  I’d make someone a great companion.  I like to play and go for walks, but I’m not going to get into trouble like a puppy.

My foster parents say I'm Mr. Personality because I am such a sweet, good-natured guy. I even enjoy getting picked up and cuddled!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
