BIO: Coco came from a shelter in rural NC, heartworm positive. He is going through treatment now and will be done on the 4th of September. Coco is a very curious dachshund. He has to see all and know all... for that reason nothing is safe on tables, chairs, and end tables. He was fed off the table and would steal the food right off your plate, so we are working on this now. He gets NO people food at his foster mom’s. He also likes to chew shoes, and foster mom and dad have been witness to this negative behavior. We are also working on this so the new home can’t leave shoes or slippers down or they will be victim to his teeth.

Other than that, Coco is a GREAT boy! He gets along with all the dogs in the household. Coco is a happy boy, and he goes in his kennel to eat in the morning and when the foster family leaves (we would not trust him out in the house). He does bark when you first walk out the door but settles down to chew on his dog chew and waits for you to come home. We don’t make a big deal when we come back home therefore not feeding into or making the separation anxiety worse.

He will make a great pet for an active family or a more chilled family, and he definitely needs a fenced in yard to chase all the squirrels out of!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI, NH or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
