Hello, Levi here!  My story is below and there are just a few things I would like to add.  I have been here in Lancaster, PA for a week.  My foster family is just crazy about me!  They have 8 grandchildren and I have met 4 of them… cool.  I need a little bit to get to know them, after that, awesome!

They have 3 dachshunds - two are around 5 years and one is 11.  They don't mind me at all.  Took a couple of days to warm up, but now we sleep, nap and play together.  Oh, and they have a cat, BIG cat, he's bigger than I.  I could not care less about him.

I am 99.99999999999999% house broken; I go out about every two hours or so.  I sleep in a crate at night; our bedtime is 10pm and we start to stir around 7am to go out.

I get a walk at least once a day, and I sure do walk great on leash.

I am a tiny little guy.  I am adorable, lovey, sweet and want lots of love.  I would love to live in a home with a brother or sister. 

From Levi’s foster mom:  Levi would NOT do well in an apartment because he does like to bark at unfamiliar sounds.

Levi was surrendered when his family split up and the owner started to work 3rd shift.  She didn't feel it was safe to be gone and not give him the attention he needed.  So, she gave him to her vet in NC who contacted us to take him.

Levi is a sweet boy but does need another younger dog as a playmate because he is higher energy than a normal 7 year old.  He's tiny so he could go in a carrier very easily and be carried around if you are walking the park or a trail.  

For Levi, a fenced yard is a must.  He needs a fenced in yard where he can run and chase away all the nasty things (like those pesky squirrels) that want in your yard, so only people with fenced-in yards need apply. 

If you need more info on Levi, please email his foster mom.  Oh, we shaved him down because he had some mats in his fur.  We wanted to start him with a fresh new coat that can be brushed weekly to keep it beautiful.  ALL you long haired lovers out there, this is the dog for you....

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
