BIO:  Kirby was surrendered to AADR by an owner who claimed Kirby didn’t like men.  However, he is great with my husband and happily sits in his lap whenever available.  Kirby is a cute little guy who has been overfed to the point that his small frame is holding at least 5 pounds too much weight.  We are working on reducing his size and his new family will need to help him maintain a healthy weight.

Kirby LOVES to go for a ride and will hop in any open car given the chance.  He loves going for walks, playing with squeaky toys, and being near his family.  He will entertain himself with toys, but he’d love a playmate, male or female doesn’t matter to him. Kirby is quiet and as sweet as he is handsome, are you the home he’s looking for?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
