BIO UPDATE 5/10/17:  Becoming a social butterfly!!!

Ellie has been with her new foster parents for almost a month now and she has really come out of her shell and gotten over a lot of her shyness.  Due to a family situation, there have been 5 extra people and 3 extra dogs in the house.  It doesn’t seem to bother her at all.  One day there was a BBQ with about 25 people, Ellie was friendly to all and had everyone ooh-ing and ah-ing all over her, wishing they could take her home.  Ellie has especially bonded with the 16-year-old grandchild.

When Ellie first arrived, she stayed inside (unless you took her out) but now she comes and goes and enjoys laying in the sun.

Words just can’t properly describe how sweet and adorable this little girl is!  Totally potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, rarely barks and gives the sweetest little kisses ever!  Ellie may be 9 ½ but she doesn’t act like it.  She will still run and play and can keep up with the youngsters in the house.  Won’t you consider opening your heart and home to this senior sweetie?  I promise you won’t regret it!

BIO:  Hi, my name is Ellie!  I was adopted from here 7 yrs ago and had to be returned because the baby was allergic to me.  So, here I am looking for another and last forever home.  Please, can that be yours?

Having said that, as a more mature lady, I do have my preferences.  I’m not a barker but I am shy, so you’d have to let me get used to you and your home.  I won’t be mean to strangers coming into your home, but I’m not going to be overly friendly to them either.  Little kids make me too nervous so older kids would be better.

I want a fenced in yard.  Having another older dog to keep me company is best for me.  No young dogs please, I’m way past that.

Did I tell you that I like to cuddle?  Well, I do!

You can work but please remember that I need a schedule.  So, it’s doubtful that I’ll not have accidents if you are not there to let me go when needed.  However, I do know how to use puppy pads, so you could gate me in a room and I could use those while you are gone.

I think this time, in my golden years, instead of going North I’d like to go to the South where the winters are not so cold.  You know, just lie in the sun and catch some rays.  Now with that being said, I still have a lot of life left in me and can keep up with the best.  I’d just not like to have it so cold from here on out.

If you are willing to adopt a senior mini, please consider me and contact my foster mom if you have any questions!

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
