BIO: Hi!  My name is Tobie.  I am a 4 year old, red, longhair dachshund.  I am kennel trained and mostly potty trained.  I love humans, big and small!!  I love to give kisses and wave at you with my happy tail.  I am just a little overweight but I am on limited, weight loss food with water on it and my foster mommy lets me run and play with my foster brothers in the back yard to run off some calories.  I would never tell my foster mom but I love to run and play, inside and out anyways, shhh... I think she already knows.  My last owner would take me to nursing homes to visit with people and I loveeee people.  I also love to be walked and prance around on my leash with my harness, as well as ride in a doggie stroller.  Oh...and car rides in my booster seat are amazing, give me some wind in my hair and I will smile myself to sleep.

I am a very good boy and I do not tear anything up, but will be the first to claim a toy to be mine and just look at it.  I don't really have a favorite toy and we have a lot laying around for me if I did.  I have 2 human foster brothers who I love to hang out with and I love getting kisses on the nose from other small humans too.  My favorite part of the day is laying in the recliner with my foster brothers and foster mommy.  Oh yeah, did I mention my foster mommy has these things she calls cats, don't think I had ever seen one until I came to live with her. I love to chase them to their room while barking, cause I think it is funny. I don't think I would ever hurt a cat, I am actually getting used to them now and when it's nap time, I am just too tired to chase them away, so I am thinking they are pretty cool after all.

I do well getting up and down a few steps to get up and down the deck.  My mommy has several sets of lil’ stairs at all the human beds, but I just cannot figure them out.  Today was awesome, I took a shower in the tub and I loved it.  Nothing like getting a shampoo and conditioner massage in warm water, then a towel rub down and a good brush, man I smell good and my hair is so soft.

If you have any questions about me, please contact my foster mommy.

More about Tobie.....IL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
