BIO: Hi! Herman here! What can I say? I’m just a really chill guy, but I’ve been told that all us Standard Dachshund guys are like that. I don’t understand how it happened, but my person surrendered me to the shelter. Lucky for me that the sweet lady at the shelter notified AADR, and my foster mom rescued me from that scary place.

I’m a little on the chubby side, but we’ve been working on that. I’m a bit of a picky eater, but my former people must have found something that I liked! I am not food aggressive, and take treats, etc., with the gentlest touch. I am a big snuggle bug who loves to give kisses and sit in your lap. My tail wags all the time! I get along great with the other dogs in my foster home, and love playing with toys and chewing on bones. I had one minor accident that involved a blanket and a chewed hole, but I don’t really like to talk about that. I’m still a bit of a puppy after all!

I am doing well with pottying outside on a schedule. I will go to the door sometimes if I need to go. You will need to gently remind me why we are outside to get me to get down to business. I love to be outside, and my former people said that I like to dig. I haven’t done any digging so far at my foster home. I will bark when the other dogs bark, but I don’t initiate it. I walk well on a leash, and like to ride in a car.

My foster family loves me, and have said that I don’t really have a down side, whatever that means. I just want a family of my own to love!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Herman.....AL

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
