BIO (2/28/17):   Florida adopters ONLY ... unless you are willing to drive to FL to pick him up if approved.

Meet Rascal!  Isn’t he HANDSOME?!?  You bet!!!  Rascal was surrendered by an owner who loved him very much and realized it wasn’t fair for him to be crated 18-20 hours daily.  Rascal is doing great in his foster home.  He is happy to be out of his crate, to have other dogs to learn from, to have a yard to sniff in, and to have a pack to walk with twice a day.  He is adjusting beautifully to life outside the crate!

When Rascal is scared or uncomfortable with a situation, he will growl, bark, or lunge in order to frighten away another dog or a stranger.  These behaviors make Rascal appear aggressive, but in actually, he is being a bully in hopes you or the other dog will go away!

Rascal needs an owner who is doxie savvy and a strong pack leader.  Once he realizes who is the pack leader at home, Rascal drops his bossy attitude.  He has only been in foster “boot camp” for a week, but we are seeing huge strides.  He is on a strict diet and getting lots of exercise to get off the 4 pounds gained this past year while crated.  His current overweight status is a recipe for going “down in the back”.  Back surgery can run $5000-$8000.  It is paramount that Rascal lose 4 pounds NOW!

Rascal is very smart and wants to be close to his person.  His favorite spot is anywhere next to you!  When he first came, he’d put himself to sleep in the open crate, but now he asks to be allowed on the BIG bed.  Can you blame him?!?  LOL!  Did I mention that he is very smart!  Oh, and once he trusts you, he has lots of kisses, too!

Once you fill out an adoption application from the left-hand column at www.allamericandachshundrescue, his foster mom will be happy to discuss Rascal’s continued progress.  Remember, we are looking for FL families or families willing to drive to FL to adopt Rascal.  His next home is going to be his last!

More about Rascal....FL

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
