BIO:  Hi my name is Mellow and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. Don't let my frosty face fool you, I am only 8 years old and spunky as can be! My elderly owner passed away from cancer and a small rescue in TN took me in. Unfortunately, the owners had some health problems and AADR stepped in and found a foster for me. Now I am in a place called New Jersey looking for a forever home where I can enjoy the rest of my life.

My foster mom is always going around singing a silly song called “Mellow Yellow”. She said I am the best little girl and she is very proud of me! I am so good and haven't gone potty in the house. She said she thinks I would do best in a home with an older couple who would walk me and treat me like a princess. Not sure if I like children or not, I don't like fast movements.

I have 3 foster sisters and 2 foster brothers. I will tolerate them but if they bother me, I will growl at them to tell them to settle down. I would do best in a home with maybe one other older dachshund. I love to cuddle up in my favorite blankets for naps. I will sleep in the big bed, but I am also okay with sleeping in my own bed beside the big bed, just don't forget my blankie.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
