BIO:

I come from an Alabama rescue facility where my owner surrendered me on November 9, 2016; just one day after I delivered four little puppies.  This rescue then surrendered me to AADR on November 17th.   I wasn’t feeling very well and all my puppies were sick too.  It was determined we were all suffering from Parvo Virus.  Sadly, none of my puppies were strong enough to survive, even with the best of care.   After a month-long struggle with strong antibiotics and IV fluids, I became stronger and survived this deadly disease.

I have been with my new Foster Mom in Michigan since January 3rd.  I like it here, everyone treats me nice, but there is no place like home.  I still have to wear a cone on my head until my stitches are removed on January 9th.  So, it is difficult to get to know the other doxies here.  Soon I will be able to go in/out the doggie door and play with the others without struggling with this darn awkward cone on my head!

I love to get my Foster Mom’s attention by jumping on her lap and giving her lots of wet kisses.  I never realized loving can be so much FUN!!  I need a little help with the house breaking and a family patient and willing to teach me.  I love people, don’t bark much, and am very gentle.  I have no food/fear aggression, submissive urination, or separation anxiety.  My wish list would be: another doxie to play with and a fenced in backyard (would be a plus).

If you are looking for your Best Friend - start the New Year out right: “Adopt a Rescue dog - that would be me!!” J

More about Kiara......PA

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
