BIO:  Destiny has been here at her Vermont foster home for 3 full days and has quickly settled in and become part of the pack.  Destiny is a retired breeder from North Carolina and is looking to live the “retired life” with a wonderful family that will treat her like the queen she is.  CAUTION:  Her tongue is bionic.  Once she starts kissing you, it is next to impossible to slow her down, and believe this, she loves to give kisses!

My initial take on Destiny is she may have Alpha Female tendencies.  She hasn’t been here long enough to really know for sure, but she certainly is not aggressive in any way.  No toy or food aggressions.  LOVES to play with squeaky toys and will fetch objects that are thrown for her.  She sleeps quietly all night in her crate (but I’m sure she’d love to cuddle in the Big Bed too).  She does bark at the slightest of unknown sounds, so I believe that an apartment setting may not be the best home for her.  She would love a house with a fenced in yard to run around in.  She is house trained as well as doggie door trained, so when she has to go, she just lets herself out and goes.  She does not seem to mind wet weather (although it has been in the form of snow here).  Some special grooming attention may be needed as her long hair seems to get matted pretty easily, especially around legs and belly area.

Destiny will make a wonderful addition to your family and I promise,  if you’re looking for a dog that loves to snuggle, kiss, and be the center of your world…you have just found her!

If you are interested in Destiny and would like more information, please contact her foster parents at judehoust@aol.com.

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
