BIO:

There isn’t a whole lot known about Albert since he was found as a stray. AADR took him in and got him fully vetted, including a dental where he lost about 9 teeth. Albert is otherwise in good health with no known problems.

Albert is a sweet and fun loving pup! He loves to play with his foster brother and sister and is such a goofball! He loves to run through the house and pounce on you when you least expect it. And what a lap-loving lover boy! He just seems so appreciative that he’s no longer on the streets. Albert never meets a stranger so I’m sure he would do well with older children.

Albert would do great in a home with another younger dog for him to play with and not have to be crated.  He just doesn't care for the crate unless maybe you provide a Kong filled with frozen peanut butter or a chewy so he can keep busy and know that the crate is not a punishment but a good thing.

He's doing very well with a doggie door so he may need to be put on a schedule if you don't have one, but he is treat motivated so taking the treats out with you and staying out with him while he potties is what will work for Albert. Sadly, he was returned after he was adopted, we feel through no fault of his own. They didn't reach out to us for help and got frustrated and gave up on him... we will not let that happen to the next family that wants to love him!

More about Albert in DE

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
