BIO:  Must have fenced yard and a younger dog to play with these requirements are not negotiable.

Charlie is a sweet, gentle, soul who has been passed around his short life. His next home must be his forever home!

Charlie was an owner surrender. The history we know of starts with a Facebook posting. Some Good Samaritans went to look at him and found that he had been shut in a shed. He had been in his new home for one day. He pooped in the house and they banished him to the shed. I guess they expected him to be perfect. The Good Samaritans felt sorry for him and took him home. He proved to be a little too much for them so they called AADR to help find his perfect forever home.

Charlie is a young dog who needs a playmate or two. He has big brown eyes and soft kisses. He gets a little anxious by himself, but with playmates he is relaxed and happy. He loves to play with his foster brothers and sisters. He spends his days in his foster home, playing with his foster brothers and sister, relaxing or chewing on a bone. He will sleep in a crate, but he loves sleeping in the big bed with the rest of his foster pack. He is not food aggressive. He is house trained if you have a doggie door or can give him a strict schedule with praise and reward.

If you have a frisky dog or two that need another playmate, AND you have a fenced in yard, consider adopting Charlie. He loves everyone! His foster parents give him a thumbs up for being a great family dog!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
