BIO: Kolby came in with two other dachshunds from right here in Middle TN when their previous owners were moving and couldn’t take the dogs.

At first Kolby was pretty skittish, but as he has settled in, he’s become more social and likes to be a lap dog. He gets along with male and female dogs and really needs a younger dog that he can play with. We do not think he would do well as an only dog because he's always been with other dogs and he may develop separation anxiety.

We also think he’d do better with a fenced-in yard and someone that is home a lot or doesn’t work. Whomever adopts him will need to continue to socialize him so he won’t be afraid of strangers as he gets older.

With all that being said, he is the sweetest boy and craves attention from you! He loves to lay in your lap and soak up all the attention you give him but he’s also not afraid to share that attention with another dog.

If you adopt this boy and put a little work into him you’ll have a wonderful dog and companion for many years to come!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
