BIO:

Hey Guys!  My name is Amos.  I am a handsome red smooth standard Dachshund with a little frosting around the edges. I am a little bit bigger than most of the pups on our website but that just means there is more of me to love!!  I am not sure how I ended up homeless but I was found in Hartsville, AL.  The shelter knew to call AADR to come and rescue me. I am so glad they did!

All my vetting has been taken care of and even the bump (benign cyst) was removed from my bum! When I came into rescue, I found out my tail had been bobbed and is only about two and a half inches long. I am very proud of my tail and wag it fiercely!  Now that I am all healed up, I am at my foster mom’s house and I am having a good time but would love to have a furever family of my own.

My foster mom is pretty impressed with how well I get along with my foster brothers and sister. I LOVE the squeaky toys and I don’t even bark too much. I just want to be near everyone when they are home. I love to get my belly rubbed and play with all the fun toys!!  I do get a little excited when someone comes in the house but so does everyone else!

I am looking for my very own furever home.  I would really like a fenced yard but since I’m leash trained, I would be fine without one.  I really like to be near my foster mom so I would do great in a home that would let me sleep with them in the big bed.  I get along great with other dogs, so I would do well with or without other dogs.  My foster mom is working on testing me with her indoor/outdoor kitty (I am not sure if I will like him or not) to see if my furever home can have cats or not.  I love to run and play and bounce around so I probably should not go to a home with children under 5 years old.  I love…I mean really love…food (just like any Dachshund should) and get really excited when it’s mealtime. My foster mom puts my food in a funny looking bowl with bumps in it to keep me from eating too fast so I won’t get a tummy ache.

I might have a frosty face but I am still a young guy with lots of love and energy. I run very fast and hop like a bunny rabbit when I get the chance. If I look like the perfect guy for you, email my foster mom Angie at anjoan@comcast.net for more information.

More about Amos #2.....TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
